About

Kangas Kahn Publishing was started as an offshoot of Kangas Kahn Films, and began in 2015 by publishing its first book, Halloween: The Greatest Holiday of All by writer/director Kevin Kangas. A coffee-table sized book featuring full-color photographs and interesting facts about the holiday.

In 2021, KKP released the vampire novella With Teeth based on an unproduced screenplay by Kangas. Both of those books had covers created by graphic-design master Erik Ashley, who would be more than happy to discuss any projects you have that are in need of eye-catching design.

2023 is shaping up to be a big year, as KKP plans to release a few projects including a Halloween anthology featuring some of the biggest up-and-coming horror authors around. We aim for this to be the greatest Halloween anthology in existence, so look for it in September 2023.

We also plan to publish some of the screenplays to the movies we've made over the years.

Deadline: April 1st, 2024
Payment: $.08 per word
Theme: Clowns

Kangas Kahn Publishing is seeking unpublished horror short stories for an upcoming anthology titled Fear of Clowns: A Horror Anthology to be published in September of 2024. We've brought back editor extraordinaire Kenneth W. Cain who did such a great job on our first hit anthology October Screams.

As usual, we're less concerned with theme than we are with entertaining stories. We're not necessarily looking for a clown-murdering-people story--if that's your story, it better bring something new to the table. Ask yourself, does this story belong in a book called Fear of Clowns? If the answer is yes, send it!

Length: 1,000-4,000 words. Note: We are the same people that put out the movies "Fear of Clowns" and "Fear of Clowns 2", but we're not looking for stories that have anything to do with that, so please don't send movie tie-ins.

We will accept up to two submissions per author. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable but please let us know if it's sold elsewhere. If a story is accepted or rejected, notification will be within sixty days of submission(if 60 days have passed and you have not heard from us, check your spam folder--if nothing is there, feel free to reach out.)

Please attach your story in .doc or .docx format and email it to kang.kahn.publishing@gmail.com with the subject "Fear of Clowns Anthology Submission". In the body of the email, please give us a short bio with credits, if any. Not having credits doesn't mean anything to us; the story is what counts. Make sure your story is in proper format(Shunn)--you can find details here: https://www.shunn.net/format/

We're buying global first print and digital publication rights for one year exclusively from the date of print(Sept 2024). After that, all rights revert to the author, and we maintain non-exclusive rights to keep the book in print.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND US A STORY THAT DOES NOT FEATURE A CLOWN IN SOME WAY--we will not even send a rejection notice on those.

Note: This anthology will be approximately 70/30 invitation/open-submission. Like our first anthology, we expect to have some big names in this anthology, so competition will be fierce.

FAQ

Are you accepting manuscript submissions?
Check out our Submissions button--we also tend to publish them on places like Horror Tree and others.

How hard is that deadline? If I'm a couple of days late, am I out of luck?
The deadline isn't firm, so if you're a few days late, go ahead and shoot it to us.

Any helpful hints on how to not get thrown in the "No" folder?
  • When you think your story is ready for submission, read it out loud two times. This will help you catch awkward sentence and dialogue. Also, make SURE there are no spelling errors in your manuscript. Nothing screams amateur like spelling mistakes. Word even HIGHLIGHTS them for you...and it highlights them for me also so it's easy to see when someone hasn't gone the full distance for their story...

  • Read the submission instructions carefully. If we ask for a Halloween story and you send us a story about some other holiday, that is an easy pass for us.
